Omaha Atheist Youth Group

Story by Tom Gray, Youth Group Leader

The OA Youth Group travelled to Fontenelle Forest on July 6th for a morning of hiking, education and socializing. The teens thought a 10am start time was "pushing it" but humored the old timers who gestured about them with their canes and declared, "I can remember when all this was forest!"

We sighted an oriole, the Constitution Tree (so called because it's a bur oak that's been around since the mid 1700s), and lots of mosquitoes. We also ran into our friend Mike Lewis who recently moved from Lincoln to Sioux City.

After the hike we enjoyed a picnic lunch and discussed the issues of the day over watermelon, chips, black cherries and an ant colony.

The next Youth Group event will be on 27 July (Sunday) at the Offutt AFB Base Lake and include water sports and archery. Sign up on Come on out!
