La Vista Daze - Very positive experience; we have put nonbelievers in the press in a positive light. Mayor Kindig's angry reaction and poor choice of words put us in a position of being the 'underdog' and the press were supportive. We led a protest at La Vista City Hall and the church counter-protest was peaceful...Roger, the preacher and organizer of the Faith and Freedom event, came to the "Meet an Atheist" event after the protest and couldn't be more willing to work with us. I haven't heard a negative statement from any of the people on either side of the protest. We're set to make a difference in La Vista that will make nonbelievers more visible and accepted and at the same time protect church/state separation. Please let us know, as a member of OA, what specific goals you'd like the group to pursue. Get a humanist chaplain included in the memorial service? Start a completely secular ceremony that everyone can enjoy?
Youth Group - We're kicking off the OA Youth Group and already have a big event planned for August (guided tour of the UNL Morrill Hall natural history museum). We'l be meeting June 12th for food, fun, and a discussion of goals and events for the group. Get your kids involved in educational and social events...and out from underfoot. :-)
Camp Quest - Congratulations to Eva and Michaela, winners of the OA scholarships to the week-long camp in Kansas City!
Pride Parade - We'll be marching in the Pride Parade, June 28th. Come be part of the fun!
